Liverpool dropped to the foot of the Women’s Super League after doubles from Adriana Leon and Martha Thomas led West Ham to a comfortable win.

The Reds had sunk to the bottom of the table after Bristol City’s victory over Birmingham earlier in the day and were unable to produce a response.

West Ham’s Leon and Thomas both struck with goals in each half.

Liverpool’s Rachel Furness also scored twice to halve the deficit but it was too little too late for the Reds.

After a quiet opening 25 minutes West Ham hit Liverpool with a quickfire double, scoring twice in as many minutes.

First, Leon finished off a swift counter-attack, before Thomas doubled the advantage by converting Alisha Lehmann’s cross from close range.

The home side’s third came after 51 minutes when Thomas skilfully turned a defender before rifling home from outside the box.

Thomas was involved again on the hour mark when her cross was slotted home by Leon.

Liverpool showed their battling qualities by hitting back through Furness’ free-kick and she also added a late consolation goal.

The defeat was Liverpool’s 10th in 14 league games and leaves them looking up at the rest of the division. West Ham remain eighth after their first win in three matches.
