Knolls Fire evacuations lifted – fox13now.com

Saratoga Springs residents who evacuated due to the Knolls Fire can now return to their homes, the city announced Monday afternoon.

“Assessments of homes completed & safe to return, with power. All evacuated residents may return to home, but are still under warning of potential evacuation. Fire remains at 25% contained. Redwood Road still closed going south at Habor Parkway,” a tweet from the city said.

As of Monday morning, the “Knolls Fire,” has reached 10,000 acres and is 25 percent contained.

The city of Saratoga Springs reports the fire has damaged 12 homes and destroyed one home outside of city limits. It has also destroyed 18 fences and a shed.

According to Utah Fire Info, the fire forced the closure of a section of SR-68 near the fire’s perimeter “due to down powerlines and other hazards.”

On Sunday, firefighting crews responded with engines and dozers, but heavy winds prevented aerial firefighting efforts.

The fire forced officials to evacuate about 3,100 homes, affecting approximately 13,000 people. As of Monday morning, the evacuation is still in place and there is not a timeline for when the evacuees can return to their homes. (See evacuation map below).

Those interested in donating supplies for evacuees can bring them to Westlake High School in Saratoga Springs.
